About this song
My husband Jim is my biggest supporter- no matter what crazy adventure I am up to. He has been more than 100% behind my exploration of songwriting, singing and recording. When I wrote this song we had just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary – and I am happy to report we are still on our honeymoon. How lucky I am to have such a partner in life, and I am grateful for him every single day. This song is for him.
Lyrics
If I could tell our younger selves, on our wedding day
What life would look like in 35 years, I wonder what I’d say?
Would I tell us we’d save every cent to buy our first home?
That we’d own a farm and work harder than we could ever know?
That saying goodbye to those we love would break our hearts?
That moving past the losses together would be the hardest part?
Would I tell us that the bank account would sometimes be nil?
That there’d be days we’d count pennies to ensure we eat our fill?
In 35 years the path has turned in many different ways
After everything that we’ve been through, I know what I’d say
Chorus
The heart and hands you hold today, when you say I do
Are the things that will hold you up when your knees give out beneath you
The laughter that you share today will echo through the years
And be the anchor of the joy that helps dry your tears
But after 35 years no matter what, or how far you roam
That same heart will love you more and welcome you home
Would I tell our younger selves someday we’ll learn to dance?
That after 35 years we still have plenty of romance?
That we’d travel far together, explorin’ the worldwide?
And that along the way we would learn the art of compromise?
35 years of laughter, and love that doesn’t end
To our younger selves, here is the message I would send
Chorus
