About this Song
We all have our musical heroes, and one of mine is Dave Gunning, an amazing singer-songwriter from Nova Scotia, Canada. I love his music and listen to it often. This song celebrates him, and weaves titles of some of my favourite of his songs through the lyrics. Dave has been one of the people who has been so very important to me in my musical journey, and recording at his studio is always a wonderful experience. Having him play on this song makes it extra special!
Lyrics
Music reminds us of the places that we’ve been
The beginnings, the endings, and all that’s in between
Songs sculpt our memories of sadness and of fun
So many artists but there’s a special one
He tells stories of his people and the land that he knows
About what to do with These Hands and about Shoveling Coal
From singing heartfelt ballads to lively jigs and reels
About Saltwater Hearts and fun on Ferris Wheels
Chorus
He puts his fingers on guitar strings
Taps his foot upon the floor
A hush falls over the crowd
They just can’t wait for more
He takes a breath and adds a smile
Now he’s ready to start
Telling stories with his music
Telling stories from the heart
He hears our emotions and from them makes a song
Weaving melodies and harmonies in tunes we sing along
A friend on the soundwaves, bringing rest when day is done
Bringing warmth at home When the Cold Weather Comes
Chorus
Musical Bridge
